Car Was Repaired Under Recall but Its Having Same Issue Again

If your car has a remember for a safety upshot, dealers are supposed to set it gratuitous of charge. Information technology's a federal law.
But sometimes, a dealer may not desire to touch your car.
One Northern Kentucky family unit just learned two reasons dealers can reject a think repair, which has left them with a dangerous car for their teenage daughter.
Ryan VanHook recently purchased a 2008 Chevy Cobalt for her high school senior equally an cheap kickoff machine.
But after a few weeks, her girl Alexis said, "Information technology started smelling like gas when I came home one night. I noticed the smell, but didn't call up that much of it."

Why dealer did not want to exercise repair

But Reddit forums and news reports find that dealers often deny recall repairs on salvage cars, due to liability if there is a crash later.
VanHook says they could pay to set the fuel leak at a small-scale shop, but says that would cost almost as much as the car is worth, and information technology would make more sense to but scrap it.
"I'm thinking it will cost at least a thousand dollars," she said, to replace the fuel pump, filler hose, and perhaps even the gas tank.
But it turns they may have a second problem:
The Cobalt recollect for this consequence does not apply to all states, and their car may take been originally sold in Mississippi, which means it would not be on the call up list.
The NHTSA is currently investigating whether the Cobalt fuel pump remember should be expanded, simply at this betoken fewer than half of all states qualify for a gratuitous repair.
This is common with rust recalls, where oft simply states north of Kentucky and Virginia qualify, and southern cars practise non qualify, fifty-fifty if they have the same rust trouble.
What you can do
